Spring and Easter DIYs

Hey guys!  I've been getting much better at posting on a regular basis... haven't I?  So proud of myself!  It was a New Year's Resolution.  Anyways, you're not here to listen to me talk about how I've been posting more regularly.  You're here to read about one of my many passions!  Enough rambling... let's get started!
Easter is March 31 this year which means... it's time to bring out the bunnies and pastel colors!  I have a few basic Easter crafts and spring DIYs to enjoy over spring break.  We are going to learn to do some cool Easter egg designs, some room decor, a Easter egg wall art, and a cute snack idea.  I know this is a lot of ideas thrown at you, but that just means you can pick your favorites!
Let's start off super-easy... like two different supplies easy!  For this DIY, you will need empty Easter eggs that open and small snacks such as Goldfish.  If you can't already guess, we're going to make DIY snack holders!  I really don't know if this counts as a DIY, but it's cute!  All you have to do is fill the egg with a small snack.  If you want you can decorate them with paint pens or metallic Sharpies!  My aunt does this every year for Easter for my brother and I for our Easter egg hunt in the pasture.  I have seen many things stuffed into eggs such as...
  • Goldfish/Whales
  • Cheese Cut-Outs
  • Rice Krispie Treat in the form of the eggs
  • Cereal
  • Gummy Bears
  • Veggies
  • Fruits
  • Crackers
  • Candy
Now, we don't just use plastic eggs at Easter do we?  We dye real eggs too!  We all have seen the basic solid colored eggs, but this year... let's try something different for a change!  I have 5+ new and cute ways to dye your Easter eggs this year!
Glitter and Sprinkle Eggs
The first idea is to apply glue all the way around the egg and roll it in sprinkles or glitter.  You probably want to spray a finishing coat of spray paint on this egg so it doesn't drop glitter or sprinkles everywhere.

Tie Eggs
Using an old tie, gently wrap it around the egg and secure it in place with a rubber band.  Then boil the egg in water with vinegar in it.  This will leave a design so make sure it is a cute tie!

Pencil and Watercolor Eggs
Draw on the egg GENTLY with a colored pencil with a SOFT lead.  You could also probably use a charcoal pencil.  Then, paint on a thin layer of watercolor after the pencil has set.  Allow to dry and enjoy!

Sharpie Eggs
Using a Sharpie or other permanent marker of your choice, draw random designs on the egg.  This will give it a Zentangle or modern effect.  You could also used a solid dyed egg and draw on it with metallic Sharpies!

Vinyl Eggs
Using a Cricut Cutter, punch out small shapes on black vinyl.  Then peel and stick them onto a colored egg.

Lace Dyed Eggs
Wrap your egg in lace just like you did with the tie eggs.  Then dye in Easter egg dye and allow to dry.  After it is dry, remove the lace.

Well, that wraps up the Easter section of my blog post!  If you still want another Easter idea click here!  It's really cute!  Now, for the spring part!  I have a collection of cute snacks that will be perfect for spring break!  These are all super easy and can be done in a little amount of time.
The first idea is DIY sprinkles!  I don't know about you but, sprinkles always make me feel like it's spring and summertime.  They are super colorful and fun.  You will need royal icing, wax paper, piping bag, and a knife.  First, pipe the royal icing in long, thin strips on the wax paper.  Allow to dry overnight.  Now, all you have to chop them into sprinkle shapes and store in a cool, dry place.  You could also pipe them into little shapes such as dots or hearts.

Now let's make some Oreo Easter Bark!  You will need vanilla almond bark or candy coating, Spring/Easter M&M's, Spring Oreos, and some sprinkles.  Hey, you could even use your DIY sprinkles I just showed you how to make!  You will need to melt about 12 oz of vanilla candy/bark in a microwave safe container.  Make sure all the lumps are gone when you pour it on a cookie sheet lined with wax or parchment paper.  Now, sprinkle on your Oreos, M&M's, and sprinkles and let it set.  After it is dry, you can break it into small pieces.

The last project I have today is Cake Batter Blondies.  Sprinkles and Funfetti cake are super springy!  There are so many pops of color (and it tastes amazing!)!  You will need a White or Yellow Cake Mix, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1 large egg, 1/3-1/2 cup milk (less is better), 1/2 cup sprinkles, and 1/2 cup white chocolate chips.  You can use those sprinkles I showed you how to make!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a 11x17 pan with non-stick cooking spray.  Combine first four ingredients in a large bowl. Add the milk slowly. You want to cake batter to be as dense & thick as possible. Mix in the sprinkles and white chocolate chips.  Pour into prepared baking pan, sprinkle a few more sprinkles on top, and bake for 25-30 minutes until edges are just turning brown.  Finally, allow them to cool for 30 minutes and then cut into squares.  Enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed these spring and Easter DIYs and fun snacks to try!  Hoppy Early Easter and Spring!
