DIY Unicorn Puke

unicornpuke
Are you in need of something fun and cute!  Then this DIY is for you!  Most of us probably love unicorns and DIYs, so what better thing to do then mix the two together.  Unicorn Puke is a really fun and entertaining idea I found on Youtube.  If you want to go watch the video, then go to GlitterForever17's channel and search Unicorn Puke.  But, I made it simple for you guys!  All you have to do is click this link!  By the way, this isn't real puke- it's also known as Floam, but I think Unicorn Puke is a much cuter name!

The materials you will need for this DIY are...
  • 1/4 cup room temperature water
  • 1/4 cup school glue (liquid)
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 teaspoons Borax
  • Polystyrene beads or Styrofoam Pellets (Styrofoam ones are easier to find :) )
  • GLITTER!!!!! (A LOT OF IT IN DIFFERENT SIZES AND COLORS)
  • Food Coloring (as bright as you can get it)
  • Spoon
  • 2 Small Bowls
  • Large Ziploc Bag
Instructions to make this super fun Unicorn Puke are...
  1. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup room temperature water and 1/4 cup liquid school glue.  A glue stick won't work, hot glue won't work, and tacky glue won't work.  It's school glue or you can't do this project... but we all have dozens of bottles laying around the house from elementary school... right?  Stir the mixture together until it is smooth and looks like milk.
  2. Next, you are going to add food coloring to the mixture.  I choose pink because it looks the most Unicorn-like color!  Continue to mix this until the food coloring is evenly distributed throughout your glue mixture.  I like to use liquid gel food coloring by AmeriColor.  You can order some here.  I'm pretty sure craft stores and possibly Wal-Mart or Dillon's sell it too.
  3. Adding the glitz!  Dump any kind of glitter into the mixture.  It will take a lot, but you want it to show up once you add the other things too.  GlitterForever17 uses cosmetic glitter, but I just bought some from Walmart.  I recommend the chunkier type so you can see it better, but do You!  Just dump it all in, don't worry about how much you use.
  4. Mix up the "glitzy glue" and set it aside.
  5. In the other small bowl, combine 1/4 cup HOT water and 2 teaspoons Borax together.  There should be no lumps!  If there is your water wasn't hot enough and the borax mix won't work and all will be lost.
  6. In a large Ziploc bag dump the glitzy glue and borax mixture. Squish the bag a little bit to combine the materials.  Right now it should look like sparkly, unnatural-colored milk.
  7. Finally, you can add you pellets of what ever you chose.  There is no exact measurement to this, so just start small and add until it looks and feels good.  (If you watch GlitterForever17's video, you can see the correct consistency at the end.)  Zip the bag closed and squish away to your hearts content!  If the mixture is sticky when you touch it, just add a few more pellets.IMG_3677
  8. Enjoy your Unicorn Puke!
There are some drawbacks to this Unicorn Puke and my choices.  Styrofoam pellets go everywhere.  They are attracted to static and will stick to everything it touches.  The other drawback is the AmeriColor soft gel food coloring paste.  It will stain your hands after awhile!
pinkhandThis is what my hand looked like after playing with Unicorn Puke!  If this happens to you, click here!  And it will whisk you away to a page all about removing food coloring from skin.
I think this is a really fun DIY, especially for little kids.  If you babysit or have younger siblings, cousins, neices, nephews, etc. this would be a great afternoon project.  Even if your a teenager or adult, there's still some kid left in you who would love to play with this.  I really enjoyed making this and messing with it... it's sort of addicting in a way.  I hope you enjoy this DIY as much as I did!
Have fun with your Unicorn Puke!
Hearts!
