Galaxy in a Jar Tutorial

We all have seen the ultra popular galaxy print these days... right?  It's all over social media, clothing, phone cases, and more!  Well today, I'm going to show you how to make one in a jar.  Galaxy jars are really inexpensive and can be a lot of fun.  I don't want to take all the credit though... I found the idea on HelloMaphie's YouTube account.  Let's get started!

For this DIY, you will need acrylic paint, cotton balls, water, a mason jar, glitter, straws, and plastic cups.  I'm going to start off by saying, lots and lots and lots of cotton balls.  Probably close to 75-100 for a quart mason jar.  Before actually creating the DIY, you will want to spread newspaper out over your surface because we are working with paint and glitter.  Two things that hate coming off of things.

First, you will need to pour water into your cup.  I did about 1/4 of the cup full.  Then add a small squirt of paint into the cup and mix with straws.  It should be like colored water in the end.  Repeat this step for all of the colors.  Begin to tear cotton balls and pull them apart.  Fill about 1/2 the jar with cotton balls.  Pour the paint water mix onto the cotton balls.  Next sprinkle glitter all over the wet, colored, cotton balls.  Pour a little bit of clean water so the cotton balls finish absorbing instead of absorbing the next color.  Repeat this process until the jar is full and you are all done.

Screw on the lid of the mason jar and make sure it is tight!  If not, it will dry out.  I did this same project in baby food jars, and it dried out because of the seal or not enough water.  You will want to make sure that you start with a dark color such as dark blue or purple.  Your lighter colors should be toward the top.  After your galaxy jar is all assembled, you cannot shake it unless you want the colors to blur and ruin it.
Well, that wraps it up!  I hope you try out my DIY Galaxy Jar!  It is a really fun way of recreating the really popular galaxy print!  You don't need much time or many supplies, but it will make something amazing!  They are simple but are really fun and cute!  The final picture didn't download right, so I just have an image I found on WeHeartIt.  There is also a little unicorn in the background of two pictures!
